Amanda & Eric’s Intimate Rocky Mountain Elopement in White River National Forest
When Amanda first reached out to me on Instagram, she shared that their original plan was to get married in Hawaii. But, like many couples in 2020, their plans had to change. Instead, they embraced an adventurous Rocky Mountain elopement near Avon, Colorado, in the breathtaking White River National Forest—a decision that turned out to be absolutely perfect.
With a recommendation from the National Forest office, they found the most incredible ceremony spot tucked away in the mountains. (Side note: If you're planning an elopement in a national forest, always check in with the rangers! Not only can they guide you on permits, but they often have amazing location recommendations, too!)
Getting Ready & First Look in the Mountains
The day started in the cozy comfort of Amanda & Eric’s hotel room, where they got ready with coffee, mimosas, and White Claws—an ideal mix of relaxation and celebration. Their family later joined them before it was time for their first look, which is always one of my favorite moments. Seeing each other privately before the ceremony helps couples shake off the nerves and really soak in the moment together.
A Ceremony with a Surprise Guest
After the first look, the group off-roaded up to Julia’s Deck, an incredible overlook with panoramic views of the snow-covered Mount of the Holy Cross. The ceremony, officiated by Eric’s best friend, was intimate, emotional, and surrounded by their closest family and friends.
And then—one of the best surprises of the day—a dog wandered right into the middle of the ceremony! Amanda, a fellow dog lover like myself, was absolutely thrilled. The pup’s owners eventually arrived, apologizing for the unexpected guest, but honestly? It just made the moment even more memorable.
Sunset Portraits & a Special Tribute
After sealing their vows with a kiss, the newlyweds said goodbye to their guests for a bit and took some time to explore the mountain for portraits. The crisp air, fresh snow, and golden sunset over the peaks made for the dreamiest setting. Popping champagne and embracing the adventure, they leaned into the moment, proving that a little cold is nothing when you're celebrating love in the Rockies!
One of the most touching parts of the day was when Eric spread his grandmother’s ashes in this special place, making the location even more meaningful for them to revisit in the future.
A Cozy Dinner Celebration
After photos, Amanda & Eric rejoined their family for dinner at Maya, a cozy Mexican restaurant near their hotel. With margaritas, laughter, and cake, they ended their wedding day exactly how they wanted—surrounded by love, great food, and an overwhelming sense of joy.
The Perfect Change of Plans
Even though their original plans shifted, Amanda & Eric’s elopement turned out to be a beautiful, unforgettable adventure. And I couldn’t be more honored to have captured it for them!
Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Cano! 🎉
